On the latest HomeKit Insider Podcast episode, Jen Tuohy once again joins to cover the demise of Wemo, Aqara’s new gear, and to talk about smart chicken coops.
Leading the episode, before getting into smart home-specific news, we have to talk about one of the biggest stories of the week — Apple’s lawsuit against serial leaker Jon Prosser. Both sides have their narrative, but it sure has been a topic of discussion for the tech community.
After that, we revisit the new smart home features found in iOS 26 and tvOS 26. Apple promised to deliver public betas in July, meaning we could see them in the near future.
Belkin has officially called it quits on the smart home with the sunsetting of the Wemo brand. This once fan-favorite line is officially over as several products are no longer going to be supported in the coming year, though Apple Home users have some breathing room.
Finally, Aqara is out with three more new products this past week. It announced the release of the G100 2K indoor/outdoor camera, the H2 switch, and the W500 heated floor thermostat.
The rest of the episode was revisiting the topic of smart chicken coops. While niche, both Andrew and guest host Jen Tuohy from The Verge both have chickens in their yards.
After Andrew lost seven hens, your hosts get into various ways of securing a coop, including adding cameras or investing in a full-on smart coop with AI predator detection and auditory deterrents.
