Students at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville have been put on lockdown following reports of an active ‘incident’ on campus.
Platteville Police Department confirmed they were called to the scene around 3.45pm.
The Grant County coroner also confirmed to WISN that it was called to the scene.
Staff and students at the public university – where roughly 6,500 people study – were promptly told to avoid Wilgus Hall, a dormitory on campus, and shelter in place. That order was then lifted at 5.03pm.
Those who were not on campus were also told to stay away.
Once the incident had apparently subsided, UW-Platteville dispatch said evacuations were underway, Channel 3000 reports.
‘Right now, we are doing a room to room sweep on campus,’ a university spokesperson told WISN.
But in a later update, police said there is no active threat to the campus community, and emergency responders remained on the scene to provide assistance.
A university spokesperson also said it was ‘an isolated incident,’ according to Spectrum News 1.

They said the school would update residents of Wilgus Hall via email, and are working to support students affected by the incident.
Yet it remains unclear what the incident may have been, as university spokeswoman Christine Bellport declined to confirm to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel whether there was a shooting on campus.
The Platteville Police Department and Grant County Sheriff’s Office are now continuing to investigate the incident along with state agencies.
It comes as students at the university take their final exams, however, a message sent to UW-Platteville employees obtained by WBOW said final exams would be canceled for Monday and Tuesday.
Officials are expected to release further information at a news conference Monday night.
