Tom Selleck’s hideout revealed: Lavish new photos show inside idyllic 63-acre ranch amid bitter Hollywood feud

He has no doubt been spending a lot more time at home since the cancellation of Blue Bloods.

But Tom Selleck still has plenty to keep him occupied, if photos of his southern California ranch are anything to go by. 

The actor, 80, has retreated to his 63-acre estate ever since CBS ended the hit show, in which he starred for 14 years.

The decision brought Selleck to tears and left him weighing up legal action, according to insiders. 

But photos show how his idyllic Ventura County compound is at least able to afford some tranquility amid the upheaval.

The stunning property boasts a host of amenities including stables, a tennis court and swimming pool.

The massive compound has been the actor’s full-time home since he purchased it from jazz legend Dean Martin back in 1988 for around $5million, the same year his breakout role in hit 80s TV series Magnum, PI came to an end

The actor’s property was originally known for being an avocado farm, but he revealed in an interview last year that droughts destroyed most of the trees as well as around 25 oaks that were more than 100 years old 

The property near Westlake Village and Los Angeles County’s western border includes a Spanish colonial-style home, guest house, golf green, a sizable chicken coop, large circular fire pit, water fountain, hiking trails and private helipad.

It also is reported to have more than 1,500 trees and an array of other greenery, much of which Selleck planted himself during his 37 years on the property. 

Selleck said he is especially partial to the wildflowers he has seeded throughout the sprawling, wooded oasis. 

He shared that he loves to ride his ATV around the estate checking on its most recent blooms. 

‘When it’s coldest, one of them blooms and another one comes in,’ he said. ‘I know it sounds stupid, but I just watch them grow.’ 

The actor previously revealed he handles much of the upkeep on the property himself. 

‘My relationships and my ranch keep me sane,’ he told People in 2020. 

Selleck bought the property from crooner Dean Martin for $5 million in 1988.

That same year, his eight-year role as Magnum, P.I. came to an end and he welcomed daughter Hannah, now 36, with new wife Jillie Mack, who he married 12 months prior.

The couple have stayed together and are also parents to son Kevin, 59, Selleck’s son with his ex-wife, former actress and model Jacqueline Ray.

The ranch used to be a working avocado farm until drought conditions in recent decades killed most of his 100-year old avocado trees and several giant oaks. 

‘That just breaks your heart,’ he told People, noting that some of the trees are starting to bounce back.

Selleck and Mack — who tends to the critters on the property — faced legal trouble in 2015 when they were accused of siphoning truckloads of water from a fire hydrant they weren’t entitled to use during a drought.

The dust-up ended when the couple agreed to pay a $21,000 settlement — about the amount that the Calleguas Municipal Water District spent on a real-life private investigator to document the alleged water theft.

The 14-season show followed the tight-knit Reagan family, many of whom worked for the NYPD under the leadership of his character, New York City police commissioner Frank Reagan. 

Five months after the finale in December, Selleck is still so ‘livid’ about the show’s cancellation that insiders say he is weighing taking legal action against CBS for ‘ageism’, after the network approved plans for a spin-off entitled Boston Blue that stars Donnie Wahlberg, 55, whose character takes a job in the Boston Police Department.

‘Tom is considering suing CBS for ageism over cancelling Blue Bloods and spinning it off,’ our insider said. 

‘He is absolutely livid about it, especially as ratings were strong when it was canceled.’ 

The property even has a helipad so Tom and his family can come and go via private helicopter

Fans echoed Selleck’s ire over the cancellation, even launching a petition drive last year calling on CBS to reverse its decision to nix the show. The network didn’t budge.

Members of Facebook groups dedicated to the show are now urging Selleck to join the Boston Blue spin-off, due for premier in the fall. 

But the actor is said to still feel bitter at being ‘screwed over’ by the broadcaster.

‘Donnie would like to get everyone back to make cameos, including Tom – but he is still angry that Blue Bloods was cancelled,’ a second insider told the Daily Mail. 

‘If Tom was asked to play his character again, he would probably say no because he is so mad with CBS. He wouldn’t want CBS to benefit, since he feels they screwed him over.’

Wahlberg’s decision to front the spin-off – which he will also executive produce – was no surprise after he previously claimed he wanted Blue Bloods to emulate the success of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. 

A year before purchasing the property, Selleck married wife Jillie Mack, 66, in 1987.  The couple have been together ever since and are also parents to daughter Hannah, now 36,

Last month he made clear his wish for the Reagans to reunite, hinting to the Morning Magic with Sue and Kendra podcast: ‘It will be a Danny Reagan-based show, but the Reagans are only a phone call away, and Danny Reagan likes to use the phone. That’s all I’ll say.’

His comments came weeks after reports claimed Selleck felt betrayed by Wahlberg and was seething over his plans to star in the spin-off.

But while one insider poured cold water on the alleged tensions, they did suggest that Wahlberg hopes Selleck will see the spin-off as a way to recover from the devastation of Blue Bloods being cancelled.

‘Donnie has become so close with Tom and is supportive of all his decisions,’ the insider said. 

‘But Donnie has also turned a sad situation upside down for Tom with Boston Blue.

‘Donnie felt the need to have his character live on for his fans and hopes this show has the same success. 

Selleck’s most memorable role is perhaps private investigator Thomas Magnum in the 1980s hit series Magnum P.I.

‘He fought for the show to continue going because they didn’t tie things up and left a lot unanswered. Tom and everyone else knows that they are welcome on the spin-off.’

Having gained weight and slowed down physically in recent years, Selleck has developed a noticeable limp.

He is said to have agreed to appear in an ‘Untitled Jesse Stone Project’ for the Hallmark Channel, although little is known about where things stand in its development.

Selleck moonlighted American Advisors Group (AAG) a leading seller of reverse mortgages to older Americans, as well as Finance of America which acquired AAG.

Many critics see such loans as a form of predatory lending and have slammed Selleck for cashing in on his good-guy image to shill for the company.

Selleck’s more than half-century of success in Hollywood makes him unlikely to need the kind of loan offered, which is typically targeted at people on fixed retirement incomes, who struggle to pay their bills and stay in their homes.

But with Blue Bloods’ cancellation, he has feared he would be forced to give up his ranch. 

‘You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold onto the place. That’s always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!’ he told CBS Sunday Morning last year.

‘Tom still has to work to maintain his lifestyle,’ the insider added earlier this month.

‘He would have preferred to do that with Blue Bloods but since that’s no longer an option, he’s trying to figure out the best way to move forward because the cancellation was a death to him.’

‘To have that upheaval at 80 years old was a major slap in the face.’
