
A pedestrian is dead and two others have been seriously injured after a car lost control and ploughed into them on a suburban street in Melbourne’s east.
Emergency vehicles raced to the scene on Coleman Road in Wantirna South just before 1.30pm on Thursday.
Emergency services remain at the scene, where the street has been cordoned off.
An SES tent has been set up near a broken fence, metres away from a playground.
At least five ambulances attended the scene.
‘The incident is not believed to be intentional,’ a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
One person died at the scene, while another was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
A third pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not seriously injured but was to hospital as a precaution.
‘The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives will investigate,’ a police statement read.
Coleman Road remains closed in both directions between Stud and Lewis roads.
Police are expected to provide an update on Thursday afternoon.
