Two men are fighting for life after a brazen drive-by shooting at one of Sydney’s busiest intersections in what police believe is an attempted gangland underworld hit
Police were called to Church Street beneath the M4 overpass in Granville in the city’s west shortly after 5pm on Sunday after a gunman opened fire on a white Ford Ranger ute occupied by four men waiting at the traffic lights.
Two men were found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital in critical conditions.
One of the men were shot in head, chest and arms while the other in the legs.
The two other men in the ute were uninjured.
Eight ambulances attended the scene, including two specialist medical teams.
An abandoned car was found alight a short time later in a carpark 3.5km away in Todd St, Merrylands.

The tactic is often used by gangs as a way of covering their tracks.
‘Police will be investigating if the two incidents are linked,’ a police statement read.
‘A crime scene has been established at both locations.’
Photos from the scene of the shooting show the road strewn with debris and police speaking to a man sitting on the footpath.
Detectives and members of the State Crime Command Raptor Squad have swarmed both scenes.
Police will investigate whether the shooting was gangland related.
The latest shooting comes just days after tradie John Versace, 23, who had no links to organised crime, was gunned down in a hail of bullets at his doorstep in Condell Park in the city’s south-west.
The gunman remains on the run.
