Meet the Australian who has become one of Trump’s right-hand men – and why it’s sparked a huge controversy

President Donald Trump has nominated a former Sydney deputy mayor to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia. 

Nick Adams, a staunch Trump supporter and former mayor of Ashfield, described the appointment as the ‘honor of a lifetime’, calling it the realization of his American Dream. 

The president confirmed the nomination on Thursday, speaking highly of Adams.

‘I am pleased to announce that Nick Adams will be nominated as the next United States Ambassador to Malaysia,’ he wrote. 

‘Nick is an incredible Patriot and very successful entrepreneur, whose love of, and devotion to, our Great Country is an inspiration. 

‘Nick is a bestselling author, speaker, and commentator. Nick graduated from the University of Sydney and, since then, has made it his life’s mission to extol the Virtues of American Greatness. Congratulations Nick!’

But critics remain skeptical over Trump’s choice to have outspoken and proud misogynist Adams represent American interests overseas.

The Australian-born conservative has political experience, having served as Australia’s youngest ever deputy mayor after being elected to the role at the age 21.

While in office, Adams was accused of misusing public funds, including spending on phone calls and taxi fares that he claimed were for council duties but were actually for personal use.

His actions embarrassed the Liberal Party, which threatened to suspend him – though Adams resigned before any formal disciplinary action could be taken. 

He emigrated to the US in 2012 on the so-called Einstein Visa, which is awarded to people with extraordinary abilities, and rose to fame just five years later when Trump hailed his book on legal immigration as a ‘must read’.

Adams, who then became an American citizen in 2021, used his popularity among MAGA fans to grow his Alpha Male movement to new heights, including a boycott of M&Ms over the candy company’s promotion honoring inspirational women.

Just last month, Adams marked the celebration of a made-up ‘Alpha Male Awareness Month’ – which is not recognized by any government or major charitable organization.

Adams’ hyper-masculine content also raises eyebrows over its seemingly sexual tone, with the political commentator routinely touting his love for ‘foursomes with the boys’.

‘A foursome with the boys will be the most fun you will ever have in your entire life. There is nothing better than having a few too many domestics in the company of other alpha males,’ he posted on X in 2023.

The remark came just months after he wrote: ‘Foursome with the boys. Domestic beer in the cart. Ladies away at the par 3. They hate this.’ 

Adams is likely referring to a golf quad, but skeptics note the optics of a ‘foursome’ is not necessarily aligned with the Trump Administration’s push for family values. 

The president confirmed the nomination on Thursday, praising Adams as a ‘very successful entrepreneur, whose love of, and devotion to, our Great Country is an inspiration’ 

The Malaysian ambassador hopeful has also suggested the presence of his male friends is more valuable than holding intimate relationships with women.

‘Romantic date night at a winery with a Sheila? OR A sweaty summer night on the Hooters patio with the boys and several pitchers of ice cold domestics?’ he once tweeted.

‘Sorry ladies, but that’s an easy choice. I’d rather horse around with the boys 10/10.’ 

Adams also used his social media platform to launch campaigns for a cause most dear to his heart: the preservation of American restaurant chain Hooters.

The popular wing spot, known for its scantily clad waitresses dressed in tight tank tops and orange booty shorts, filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.

But Adams was quick to rush to the restaurant’s defense while also blaming President Joe Biden for its looming demise.

‘Bidenflation, combined with the woke un-Americanism of the Democrats has caused terrible harm to one of our country’s great institutions,’ he said of Hooters.

‘I personally volunteer myself to lead a Presidential Taskforce For The Preservation of Hooters. We must fight for our pitchers of ice cold domestics! We must fight for our women! We must fight for our chicken wings! MAKE HOOTERS GREAT AGAIN!!’

Adams has penned dozens of tweets namedropping the restaurant, which was seemingly one of his regular haunts. 

In one tweet, he declared, ‘I go to Hooters. I eat rare steaks. I lift extremely heavy weights. I read the Bible every night. I am pursued by copious amounts of women.’

He also urged his critics to ‘hate me because I have the body of a Greek God’.

Outside of campaigning for the longevity of Hooters, Adams used his social media platform to punch at M&Ms parent company Mars.

In 2023, the sweets maker debuted ‘all-female’ candy packages as a way to ‘celebrate women everywhere who are flipping the status quo’.

But Adams was unamused and accused the company of trying to ‘brush their sexism under the rug’ as he urged other men to boycott their products.

He demanded Mars ‘issue a formal apology to men, and ONLY men’ and said ‘fair reparations must be paid’.

‘Until these demands are met, we will continue our full boycott of M&Ms,’ he tweeted at the time.

He also launched what he dubbed an ‘Alpha Male Challenge’ that encouraged men to purchase the ‘largest bag of M&Ms you can find’ and ‘destroy’ every piece of candy inside.

Adams, seemingly ignorant to the fact that purchasing the candy was counterproductive to his cause, urged his followers to then ‘Take a photo of your CRUSHED woke M&Ms and post it on social. Make sure you tag Mars!’
