
Police have locked down a busy Melbourne street after discovering a body.
Officers cordoned off Collins Street from the public about 4.15am on Saturday after the body, which is yet to be identified, was found outside an EzyMart.
‘The circumstances surrounding the death of the person, who remains unidentified, are unclear,’ a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
‘The area was cordoned off while officers processed the scene.’
Police taped off a stretch of road between Spencer Street and Kings Street and established a marquee outside the convenience store.
Tram services along Collins Street were impacted and a police helicopter was observed surveying the scene from above.
Police and forensic teams were seen conducting investigations throughout the morning and into the afternoon.
Ezymart shop worker Mohammed Nawaz discovered police had taped off the area surrounding the store when he arrived for work this morning.

‘I started at 8am and the whole street was taped,’ Mr Nawaz told the Herald Sun.
‘It was terrible, I’ve seen stuff like this on news, like someone being stabbed but never saw any thing in real life.’
Firefighters reportedly hosed off tramways at the scene while police were seen taking bio waste bags into an SES tent in the afternoon.
